Filming Diary - Day 4 - Wednesday 18th February

Today I went filming at three of my locations. Unfortunately on Friday when I left college for half term, even though I had booked out a camera, there were non-available for me to take. So I used a camera I had a home to film.
My friend Lauren came along while filming with myself and Kekezza my main cast member. She was very helpful, she was able to help me with props and camera set-up. The picture opposite shows Lauren holding the roses which are a key part of my music video.
I filmed on the riverbank, Carr Lane and Ferry Road today. I made sure to get some more lip-syncing shots today when filming and I also experimented with moving the camera when filming instead of leaving it stationary on the tripod.
When filming I wanted to get some shots of the rose petals in the river. However, I couldn't get a good shot as I felt that if I moved any further forward I would be too close to the edge of the bank and this could have been a health and safety risk.

Changes & Planning Ahead

I have pre-booked a camera to take over the half term as I know that I will have more chances to film with my cast member as I have been working on other weekends when I would have filmed.
I have also decided to slightly change the narrative of my video. Originally I had planned to have my main character play an abused child. However I feel that because this is a sensitive subject I don't want my video to be upsetting or be perceived as insensitive. Therefore the overall theme of my music video is now loneliness.
In the video I am using roses as a symbol of hope, I have used them previously in some shots for my ancillary texts. I have also found that using flowers is a convention of my chosen music genre. I have gone out and bought a bouquet of yellow roses to use in the video. I wanted to use yellow as this colour is bright and connotes happiness. therefore contrasting to the theme of my video.

Progress

As I haven't bee able to film much recently, while I was with my cast member I took the opportunity to take some photo's for my ancillary texts. I have been working on editing these while I have been waiting for an opportunity to do some filming for my video.
These screen captures show the steps I have taken when editing the images in photoshop and show the different versions of each image.

Music Video Draft 2

Here I have made the second draft of my video, it has significantly improved from the first time, however I know that I still have a lot of work to do. I have only had two more chances to film since the last draft, however I have booked out a camera for half term and have arranged a time with my cast member to film the rest of my scenes.
I am now more confident on the editing suites than I was previously as I have more understanding of the different effect and timings. There are still some areas that I think I will tweak but I think I will find this easier to do once I have all my shots.
I am happy that I managed to get some lip syncing shots in, as this has given me practice with co-ordination on the editing suites.

Filming Diary - Day 3 - Friday 6th Feb

Filming day 3 ended up being a bit of a distater and I only have my own stupidity to blame for it.

I had made a conscious effort to book a camera out and do some filming on a Friday afternoon as I knew that I would be working on the weekends leading up to the deadlines and therefore wouldn't have time to film with my cast member. So on the Friday morning I drove into college (I had to borrow my Mum's car) and went to tutor, which annoyingly only lasted for 10 minutes, so I was then waiting until 11:30 for my next and only lesson. Not once in the entire time I was sat in the library waiting for my lesson did I think to go and get the camera... So I went to my english lesson then after that, drove all the way to my cast members school to pick her up in Beverley, then all the way home to my house. Not once in the entire journey did I think to myself; why am I going to Kezza's? I've never done this before so there must be a reason? When I got home, I opened the back door to get my bags and suddenly the thought occurred to me that I had forgotten to get the camera. WHY?!? I am literally that stupid. So we drove back to college, I ran in, picked up the camera, avoided eye contact with everyone and drove back home. So after leaving college the first time at 12:40, by the time I had finished my little adventure it was 2:45. My parents were not impressed. So, after that whole escapade, I managed to go to two locations and film before it got too dark and cold to film anymore.
